I was playing badminton this afternoon with my neighbors, when I noticed I hadn’t seen my boys running around for a while. A few moments later, my oldest son Sam emerged from  the “Christmas Tree”, their clubhouse.

Many times he’s asked me to join him and I’ve made excuses why I was busy at the moment. But today he didn’t bother to ask.

Instead of wallowing in regret, I took the initiative and asked if I could still come check it out.

He broke into a big toothy grin and shouted “Come on” as he dashed ahead of me.

I can’t put into words the joy, natural beauty, and ease of child’s play that greeted me under those boughs.

Instantly, I was taken back to my own childhood hideouts. Growing up in NYC, I didn’t have a tree house. But ever summer was spotted with visits to my cousins’ in New Jersey, where tree-houses and club houses seemed to abound.

I was delighted at my own sons’ creativity.

They had excavated certain stones for seats, among other amenities, but what really got me was the 3-swing rope.tree

There was the traditional swing, the single rope swing made from the extra length from the 1st swing, and lastly, you could untwist the single rope to form a harness.

As I looked on, I was momentarily kicking myself for waiting so long to say “Yes”, but I quickly focused on the present, as they showed me all the “features” and invited me to try the swing.

Children are treasures with even more treasures inside of them.

I’m definitely going to make it a point to say “yes” more often when I get these special VIP invites, and I hope you’ll be inspired to do the same.

I get so excited when I get to see how my work impacts clients in real life, don’t you?

This past weekend, I had the privilege to hang out with Sandler Francois, of and his family.

Sandler came to us earlier this year after one of our webinars. His business had been impacted by Hurricane Sandy, and being the fighter and optimist he is, he saw an opportunity to start fresh and strong.

His website at the time was several years old, consisting of  html pages with no styling of the content. We worked together to rebrand his company, launching a professionally designed website that targets his ideal clients.

Now Sandler is excited to report a 30% increase in calls and a 25% increase in revenue in only the 1st quarter!

But this isn’t just about a profitable website. Sandler’s story goes deeper. Tell me if this sounds familiar…

Sandler used to spend most his time at the office. Between client work, management and learning about SEO, it seemed he always had to go in early and stay late.

But with the happiest grin on Saturday, Sandler gushed about being able to hire the right staff, his team understanding and being motivated by the new vision for the company and most importantly, that he now – without guilt – gets to be with his family.

That’s the kind of ROI I’m looking for ! How about you?

So I have to ask…

What would “living in the day” look like for you? What are you looking past your screen and out the window, yearning to do?

What do you believe it would take to get there?

I’m hosting a free video training next Thursday, July 25th at 8:30pm where I’d love to talk to you and help you take the steps to bring that power of choice and freedom into your life now, not just some day.

This isn’t just about websites or productivity.  We’ve never done a training quite like this and I’m looking forward to the diversity- so bring your best and toughest questions. 🙂

So here’s your homework:

Register now for the free Spreecast training event at:

Do you struggle to go from your plan to action? You really know what you want to do and have even committed to paper, but when push comes to shove, you’d rather get the extra 30 minutes of sleep.

I recently heard Ramit Sethi, author of I Will Teach You To Be Rich, share a story from his marketing research. Ramit’s big into research and polling his market.

When he asked “What do you want to do, but aren’t doing?”, one woman replied that she wanted to run 3 times a week.

Ramit wrote her back suggesting she start with once a week, but this woman felt she had to do 3 times a week or it wasn’t worth it.

Be honest — what are you putting off doing because you wouldn’t hit your long term goal this week?

You are putting off success.

Our culture tells us “give it our all or go home” and that success should be grand and media-worthy  But when I look around at our society, I see that mindset breeding fear and hesitation.

A friend complimented me this week for starting a dance class. We’re both homeschoolers and she was cheering me on for making the time for myself, even if it was once a week and not the full onslaught of training I wish I did have the time for.

In fact, it was that same decision to resume ballet training, even though I won’t likely have a career in it, that motivated me to make updates to my own website, even if page by page.

Action breeds action.

Desire alone is not enough; no matter how much you envision or plan for success, you won’t get any closer without taking action.

And the more you exercise your “action muscle” it becomes easier, with visible results.

That’s why I’m doing a free training July 8th , to help take you from overwhelm and disorganization to relaxed and excited about your projects in motion, with a structure to prevent back-sliding.

But trainings only as good as it applies to you, so I’m setting aside 30 minutes for live coaching!

Mark your calendar and prep your questions! (Registration details to follow)

Meanwhile, I challenge you today to take an action forward with something you’ve been procrastinating on. Doesn’t have to be business related- just practice saying “yes” to pint-sized opportunity.

You know – I have to ask…

Whether in business or in life…
Have you ever struggled with turning down opportunities because didn’t feel you could go “that big” yet?

There are thousands who struggle with perfectionism, procrastination or fear of failure. I appreciate you contributing here- knowing that you might encourage another reader!

Do you struggle with telling your kids you’ll be done with work in 5 more minutes, but don’t stop working for at least another hour? Maybe you have a hard time just stopping to give yourself a break, time for a healthy lunch or workout.

Before I made this switch for myself, it was all too common to find me working from 9am-9pm, if not longer. I had a clear vision of what I wanted my life and my business to look like. I had it written out on giant post-it paper and was willing to work hard for it, no matter the agony.

Except one day the “agony” came in the form of my 7year old son Sam coming in the office, as he often had before, and asking if I would be done with my email soon (goes to show how often he had heard me say that)because he wanted to spend time with me.

I felt my heart constrict and I held back tears of remorse as I gave one of my tried and true answers, ” Yep, just finishing this one up.”

Do I need to tell you that I didn’t “finish up” anytime soon? It was well past bedtime when I made it to my sons’ room to find them all asleep.

bike-bridgeI went back to my room crying about how I was a liar to my kids- and maybe I was being harsh on myself – but regardless of the fact that I was working hard on my business for my family, I was, in fact, lying to them and I was robbing them of their time with me.

That was 6 months ago.

This past Monday, Rick and I went bike riding at 11:30 am – 12:30 pm with our 18 month old, Charlie X, riding in the baby trailer. We live in the Appalachian Trail in NY and have some beautiful local lakes and paths. On Tuesday, Sam and I went biking on the Mid-Hudson Walkway across the Hudson River. Sam had never been on it before and was both giddy with excitement and nervousness about the bridge standing in high winds.

The past 6 months have been filled with moments seized, instead of opportunities lost.

We went on a 2 week road trip, from NY to Dallas; read more here on my featured contributor post on She Owns : . We’ve had couple’s breakfasts, mommy-and-me lunches, and even started volunteering at our church.

If you’re worried the answer is to sleep less or settle for making less money, you can let out a sigh of relief. (I love sleep and I’m making more money than before.)

The answer is surprisingly simple.

I sat down with my vision board and wrote out a daily schedule based on the life I wanted to create, not based on my circumstances at that time.

While the answer is simple, to actually attain the results takes discipline, accountability and structure. For someone who used to ‘wing it”, this was a tall order, which is why I’m offering a free training, with time for some live coaching in the next couple of weeks.

I’m still working on the details for date and time, but since this session will not be recorded, it will probably be at 8 or 9PM EST. If you’re interested, stay tuned for information next week or respond to this email.

You know – I have to ask…

Have you ever struggled as a parent, trying to run a profitable business without missing out on time with your child?

Whether in business or in life…
Have you given up something that you didn’t have time for and regretted it OR sacrificed some conveniences to make time for a passion?

I want to hear your story – please leave a comment below and add as much detail as you can.

Remember- you are not alone. There are thousands others who struggle with work life balance. You never know who might resonate with your story or even words of affirmation.

So join the discussion; I appreciate you contributing here!
